I guess I was lucky then. I haven't read either of those series, so I didn't know.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments I just finished The Gathering (Darkness Rising, #1) by Kelley Armstrong and then found out I have to wait 10 MONTHS for the next book! OMG!!! It didn't have a cliffhanger so much as it just kind of stopped. At a REALLY stressful spot! I have so many questions and I need answers NOW!!!!!!!

message 1403: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32516 comments LOL! Thanks for the head's up, Cindy. Maybe I'll wait a bit before grabbing that one. :)

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Yeah.....I already mailed mine to a friend. Might just have to get it again next year!

hehehe

Yes, he totally snuck up on me too. But isn't it amazing when you realise how lovely he is? Just comes out of the blue.

message 1406: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments So true Moss, I can't wait to read more about him :)

I also finished The Greyfriar (Vampire Empire, #1) by Clay Griffith today and loved it! Action, adventure, politics, ruthless vampires, a dash of romance and a cast of great characters. I would recommend it.

I also started Knight of a Trillion Stars by Dara Joy today and I can already see it turn into a hilarious and steamy romp!

message 1407: by [deleted user] (new)

Knight of a Trillion Stars! A win on title alone! Hehehe.

Oh good to hear the Greyfriar book worked out. I'll shuffle it higher up the TBR list, thanks Kerstin.

message 1408: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32516 comments Thanks for the rec, Kerstin. That one (VE) sounds interesting.

message 1409: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Steph, if I hadn't read those two series I would have loved Mona Lisa Awakening. Even with having read those others, I still enjoyed it, but it did effect my enjoyment. The demon dead character, he is almost lifted completely from the Black Jewels' trilogy, the dynamic between the Queen and her followers -- identical to Black Jewels. I was surprised to see only a few reviewers picked up on the copying. I still might read #2. :)

I think I have Greyfriar on my list for September or October.

I read

Survivors by Sophie Littlefield this morning, it was released today. It comes after Aftertime but before Rebirth. I just love this series. I think now I have to wait until 2012 for #3.

I think I am going to wait to read Gathering until the 2nd one is released. :) But it looks good.

Lis | 4026 comments Finished Shadow Walker (Stormwalker, #3) by Allyson James and The Greyfriar (Vampire Empire, #1) by Clay Griffith , which I really liked before I left. During my plane, train and bus travels managed to read Something from the Nightside (Nightside, #1) by Simon R. Green which was just OK and I hope this series improves. Also Bayou Moon (The Edge, #2) by Ilona Andrews which I liked and thought was better than the first in the series.

Currently working on American Vampire by Jennifer Armintrout for my 4th of July read.

message 1411: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32516 comments Lis, I agree w/you on Bayou Moon. I enjoyed #1, but really liked that one more. I have read a lot of Simon Green's Nightside series. I really enjoyed the earlier books, but, for me, it got to be a bit of the "same ole, same ole". Haven't read the last 3, but I have them TBR eventually.

I'll be interested to hear how you like American Vampire. I have that one TBR also.

message 1412: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Interesting about the Nightside series.

message 1413: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32516 comments Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the series. (Ratings vary from 4-5 up to #8) It just that you can begin to predict a bit of the story and I prefer to be surprised. The characters and the Nightside itself are wicked. Would love to wander through the NS. :)

message 1414: by [deleted user] (new)

right now im reading The Forbidden Game (The Forbidden Game, #1-3) by L.J. Smith up to the last books and Angelology (Angelology #1) by Danielle Trussoni

CyberAlmu | 302 comments I'm reading Lover Avenged (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #7) by J.R. Ward and liking it a lot so far, and From This Moment On by Shania Twain which has nothing to do with UF or PNR... A friend of mine lent it to me, we are both big fans of her

Laurielu Bona Fide Reflections | 50 comments Hi SOS group! I've missed you! Well I am reading Delicate Freakn' Flower and I am re-reading Visions of Heat. I love the Psy/Changeling series. After reading Kiss of Snow, I had to revisit the series starting from the beginning.

Happy Reading!

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Laurielu,

I started and almost finished Kiss of Snow last night. It broke my heart to leave for work this morning with less than a dozen pages left to read. But I don't think my boss would accept "But it was a really good book!" as an excuse. LOL.

Anyway, I'm halfway tempted to go back and do a reread of the whole series, also. Hope your enjoying it.

message 1421: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I am reading: A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) by George R.R. Martin God's War by Kameron Hurley Feed (Newsflesh, #1) by Mira Grant and listening to Obsidian Butterfly (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #9) by Laurell K. Hamilton

I just finished:

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie which was one of the best books I ever read. I also just finished listening to Men of the Otherworld (Otherworld Stories I) by Kelley Armstrong which I really really liked.

If I were your boss, I would understand. Reading makes us happy. Happy employees are more productive. Your boss should approve of this reasoning. Dontcha think? :-D

Prepare to do a little sniffing & wiping your nose with some Kleenex or your hankie. John and Xhex's book is soooo good! One of my favorites of the BDB series.

message 1426: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32516 comments It is a good one, CA. Hope you enjoy it. Before I read it, it felt a bit soon for him to get his HEA. Afterward, I was happy for him and Xhex.

Man, I still get frustrated anytime I think about my boys not getting a full book. They deserve one just as much as all the other brothers. There are plenty of people who would be okay with a m/m BDB pairing, esp them. Augh! At least they are going to get something, but it's not enough, IMO. Thus ends my rant. ;)

message 1427: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

message 1428: by Lis (last edited Jul 07, 2011 06:54PM) (new)

Lis | 4026 comments I finished American Vampire by Jennifer Armintrout and was a little disappointed. Also read Jacob (Nightwalkers, #1) by Jacquelyn Frank and was pleasantly suprised, this series has been on my TBR pile for over a year and I should have read them sooner... Continuing with Gideon (Nightwalkers, #2) by Jacquelyn Frank and I picked up Burn the Night (Dark Days, #6) by Jocelynn Drake today, so I plan to savor the last book of the dark days series too.

message 1429: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32516 comments I enjoyed that one too, Lis. But, haven't remembered to pick up #2 yet. It definitely fell into the kidnapped chick turned HEA, but still. LOL!

Hope everyone enjoys the final Dark Days book. Was sad to see that series end. I think she did a decent job. The beginning of Burn the Night had me a little worried though.

Amen.

I, for some unbeknown reason, have been reading a lot of PNR recently. What's happened to me??
A few Shelly Laurenston here and there along with Thea Harrison's
Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison . Sandra was right.

Neeexxxtt, I am just not sure what to read. I might as well take advantage of my weird phase and keep on with the PNRs until I get bored and go home to where I belong. It'll probably be About A Dragon (Dragon Kin, #2) by G.A. Aiken since along with PNRs I've also been jizzing about dragons :/

Let us know what the G.A.Aiken book is like Josie, I'm always on the lookout for a good dragon series.

In fact, if anyone can recommend one I'd be very interested.

I'm just about to start Poison Sleep (Marla Mason, #2) by T.A. Pratt .

I'm also kind of reading A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin but I have to admit the idea of starting such a HUGE, epic series is making me quail a little bit. I know, I know, it's meant to be good, but I'm so laaaazy.

message 1435: by CyberAlmu (new)

CyberAlmu | 302 comments @Laurielu: He is so damn sweet, John Matthew. He breaks my heart with every thing he does. I can't imagine how this is going to end!

@Steph: I'm up for the Q&B too. There was a novella on them?

message 1436: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25808 comments CA, I don't think the Q&B story is out yet.

message 1437: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32516 comments I hear ya, Moss. Good luck tackling the giant.

Nope, Q&B novella to come ... At some point, not out yet. Maybe she'll change her mind and give them a full book. (But, based on her past Q&A I'd say that's a long shot)

I remember when I read that, Moss. I didn't even realize I liked it until 2/3 of the way in when I noticed that I was sneak reading it every chance I had. :)

Loved it ~ Inside Out (PsyCop, #0.1) by Jordan Castillo Price Very good ~ Alien Mate (Alien Mate, #1) by Eve Langlais DEAD ish by Naomi Kramer Beauty and the Beast by Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont

Just OK ~ Black Moon (Moon Trilogy, #1) by C.L. Bevill Don't waste your time ~ Hunter's Choice (The Hunters) by Shiloh Walker The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving The Devil & Venus di Milo (Witches Anonymous) by Misty Evans Red Moon Damon's Slice of Life (Moon's Reflection Series) by Ela Lond

The movie of Sleepy Hollow is far better than the original story.

I'm currently reading Dark Desires After Dusk (Immortals After Dark, #6) by Kresley Cole and it is a good as all the others before. Love Cade!

@Moss: I know how you feel about A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin . I have it on my shelf since earlier this year, as I wanted to read it before starting to watch the show. Unfortunately all I do is eyeing it curiously and then I go and grab something shorter :(

That's a bust. I loved it, and hoping to get to the next one in the next couple of days. Don't think I've completed a book since Connect4 ended. Just aimlessly wandering through my piles of books without being able to stick to one.

message 1448: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32516 comments Sorry to hear that, Ames. I'll be interested to read your review. Lemme know when it's up.

I just finished the Last Survivors trilogy by Susan Beth Pfeffer. I loved #1 (5), thought #2 must'a been written by someone using her name (2) and was frustrated by the happenings in #3 (3, maybe 3.5). But, wow! What a story. Seriously freaky because this is something that could happen. I felt like I should be taking notes in the first book, the mom rocked with all her planning in the face of such uncertainty.

Life As We Knew It (Last Survivors, #1) by Susan Beth Pfeffer The Dead and the Gone (Last Survivors, #2) by Susan Beth Pfeffer This World We Live In (Last Survivors, #3) by Susan Beth Pfeffer

Anyway, now wandering the piles with Vivian looking for something to read next. I'm avoiding my req'd Uni reading, if I can.

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Steph those sound really interesting. I absolutely love stories and movies like that. Actually it sounds like a great movie. No matter how cheesy, I enjoy this topic -- I even loved The Day After Tomorrow. :) I just wish it wasn't YA. Hmm, I am going to check these out! Now get to your homework!

message 1450: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32516 comments LOL! Noooooo, I won't do it! :{ I know, I know ... later. >;)

I think those books would make a great movie. I really liked Day after Tomorrow too. I'm a sucker for anything post-apocalyptic. If the last two book had followed the same tension as #1 did, the series would've gotten a straight 5★s from me. Oh well. Still a good read.
