Sandra | 25818 comments Just about finished the first of the Chronicles of Pern Dragonflight (Pern Dragonriders of Pern, #1) by Anne McCaffrey had to drop the others I was reading cause this one is due back at the library. And I'd run out of renewalness. LOL

Well worth reading for those looking for dragon fantasy. It would have to be 5★s. I'll be reading more in this series. Just not gonna look how many there are cause I know there are lots!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1586 comments Still whittling away at A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) by George R.R. Martin . Almost finished with Demon from the Dark (Immortals After Dark, #10) by Kresley Cole . Will start a re-reads of Honor's Splendour by Julie Garwood and Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon as a ”buddy reads today.

message 1455: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments @Lisa Kay: I've read Outlander but still haven't read the rest. Are the rest as good/better/worse then the first?

I've got A Game of Thrones but haven't built up enough courage to dive in either. I feel they're going to be an quite an investment so want to wait until I'm in the mood.

I have no idea what I'm doing with my reading life. I have books but I'm just not reading them. I start one, then stop. Start another, then stop that as well. I have books from the library which need to be read and returned but do I get going with them?? No, I end up buying some book off Amazon. I'm annoying myself. I'll probably read something like The Fire Lord's Lover (The Elven Lords, #1) by Kathryne Kennedy which doesn't fit in a challenge or have a time limit but who cares eh.

Sandra | 25818 comments Josie, I'm hearing you. According to GR I've got 9 books I'm reading, and there are a couple I haven't put on there.

Just finished Rogue Oracle (Oracle, #2) by Alayna Williams and it was very good and very dark.

My review of Grave Witch (Alex Craft, #1) by Kalayna Price is HERE .

Steph (angel4492) | 32516 comments LMAO!! The dog, I'm sorry but yuck, yuck, yuck. This goes to personal taste because tiny dogs like that creep me out and it's hairless -eww, eww, eww. I wanted the thing to die. Great review, Ames. Sorry it was a bust for ya.

Damn! I really gotta start that series! Glad you enjoyed it.

I actually forgot where I dropped off reading this series. Somewhere around #4-5-6. They are excellent. Really wanted to listen to them via audio Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon this time round, but...

Here is a link to my Review of AGoT -- my feelings, not a synopsis of the book. Doing it as a “buddy read in NBRC group has really helped, so doing it again with ACoK. I stick to the chapter reading (for the most part), and enjoy other people’s insights.

The The Fire Lord's Lover (The Elven Lords, #1) by Kathryne Kennedy looks interesting. I think that would qualify for the "[NEW] Love or Hate @ FIRST Sight Read" here on SOS, or did you already select one for July?

Josie, I feel so much better about my reading since I am going through exactly that phase. Ended up finishing 13 Little Blue Envelopes (Little Blue Envelope, #1) by Maureen Johnson yesterday, only because it's super short so even reading 10-15 minutes at a time, I got through it. My books keep piling up, but I'm not reading them. And books I have on hold from the library keep coming in! Aaah, I'm not functioning without a weekly category, lol.

message 1464: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1586 comments Josie & Vivian! Sometimes I go through periods like that too. I just hate it. I just pick up one book after the next w/o finishing. Maybe go see a movie, or watch a series on TV (I know, tons of re-runs right now). Visit an aquarium, something different.

Josie | 1967 comments @Sandra: Maybe 'Rogue Oracle' is just what I need! Glad you liked it :)

@Lisa Kay: Oh good! After I finished Outlander, I really wanted to read the rest but by the time I'd collected them, I'd kind of forgotten how much I liked it and moved on. I'll definitely (well, hopefully) read the rest this summer.
I liked your review, that's exactly what I love in a book! I'll read AGoT this summer also (well, try to) ;)
Lol! I've already done my July read but it can go under "also read". I'm sure I'll be able to fit it into a couple more challenges too. I haven't even started the monthly genre and cover challenges yet so should probably get cracking on those soon. To be fair though, I knew I'd be reluctant to read the books I've chosen for them which was why I put them in in the first place.

@Vivian: Glad I'm not the only one! We'll get 'em all read eventually and that's all that matters ;)

Lisa | 18 comments I am about to start Bite Club (The Morganville Vampires, #10) by Rachel Caine or Iron Kissed (Mercedes Thompson, #3) by Patricia Briggs I still haven't quite decided.

message 1478: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments Iron Kissed! Haven't read the other one, but still, the Mercy books are hard to beat :)

Thanks Lisa Kay for the suggestion! And to Steph for helping out us poor category addicted selves!

I read Grave Dance (Alex Craft, #2) by Kalayna Price and was disappointed since I loved the first book. But I'm out of the slump with Dead Beat (The Dresden Files, #7) by Jim Butcher which is really good so far!

Neither of which fit the category, but thanks anyways :D

message 1485: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32516 comments LOL! Ok, Ames, so the poor baby isn't absolutely adorable. Maybe his mama should stop shaving him. Or is he supposed to be born hairless? Those hairless cat breeds with their old man lookin' skin kinda creeps me out. But, I'm a pet lover at heart and find a little love for them all, ugly or not.

message 1486: by Regina (new)

message 1495: by Lis (last edited Jul 15, 2011 04:23PM) (new)

Lis | 4028 comments Finished Gideon (Nightwalkers, #2) by Jacquelyn Frank and Elijah (Nightwalkers, #3) by Jacquelyn Frank , plan to continue with the series but need a little PNR break, too much HEA.
Also finally finished another epic listen of Goodkind's Stone of Tears (Sword of Truth, #2) by Terry Goodkind . Great beginning and ending, but sooooo long in the middle. Picked up the next book in the store the other day and had to put it down, size intimidated me. Yikes! Might be braver in the winter when its time to curl up with a good lengthy read.
Started listening to Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1) by Ann Aguirre since I've seen alot of favorable Sirantha Jax comments. Debating between Burn the Night and Grave Peril for my next read.

The Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon audiobooks narrarated by Davina Porter are good. I read the series and then also got the audio versions later and have listened to them several times. She does English, Scottish, and several other character accents well. Hint: Outlander audio is usually discounted close to a new release and The Scottish Prisoner: A Lord John Novel is due out this fall.

message 1496: by Vivian (last edited Jul 15, 2011 10:55PM) (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments So Dead Beat (The Dresden Files, #7) by Jim Butcher rocked, and I'm understanding the Dresden-crack comparisons. The books are getting addictingly good !

Trying to finish up Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro , then it's more Harry with Proven Guilty (The Dresden Files, #8) by Jim Butcher

Iron Kissed (Mercedes Thompson, #3) by Patricia Briggs Bone Crossed (Mercedes Thompson, #4) by Patricia Briggs Silver Borne (Mercedes Thompson, #5) by Patricia Briggs

Hmm, I have seen Mind Games by Carolyn Crane Double Cross by Carolyn Crane but not gotten round to them. Maybe I should give them a go soon!
