Mike Brecon (wwwgoodreadscommikebrecon) | 10 comments My latest book, A Dangerous Remedy, a crime/suspense novel,is published by Synergebooks and the following is a brief summary :
The owner of a multinational pharmaceutical company fears that the arrival on the market of a scientifically tested herbal medicine, shown to halt the onset of a common disease, will seriously damage his profits. He is so opposed to the new product that he sets out to destroy his competitor with extreme violence.

Cheryl Landmark (clandmark) | 131 comments Rick, I'm glad that you have no problem with authors promoting their books in this group. Other book clubs seem to take issue with self-promotion, but, if we don't advertise ourselves somewhere, how are readers going to learn about our work? Thanks so much for providing us starving authors with a forum!

Cheryl Landmark (clandmark) | 131 comments Hi, Mike:

Since I had my book published last year, I've been scouring the Internet for book review sites and places to get my name out there. It's so amazing and wonderful how many bloggers are willing to help support and promote new authors and their books. And, really I don't mean to diss other book clubs. Their issue is with authors who continually talk about their own work to the exclusion of everything else and the moderators consider this spamming. So, I can understand how they want to put some rules around self-promotion.

I appreciate the kind words! To me, I feel strongly that Members should have the option of talking about their writing- as a Community (I prefer that to book club)- I strongly support all our members and their various projects.

Have you checked out "Some Rivers End on the Day of the Dead"? It's my debut novel, a coming-of-age story that intertwines Hispanic traditions of El Dia de Los Muertos and trying to fit in at a rich American high school. I hope you'll love Marisol's adventures!

There's a giveaway on goodreads that ends Jan. 31.

Dan Smith | 5 comments Hi, my novel Dry Season is currently out in Orion hardcover, trade paperback and ebook. The paperback is due in March, with my follow up novel Dark Horizons due out in May. I'd love to see it pick up a bit on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, garner a few reviews, perhaps. I had a giveaway sometime ago (with good response) and will probably have another close to the arrival of the paperback.

Kindle store and ibooks both offer a sample of DRY SEASON - quite a large sample from the kindle store. You can also read the first chapter via .

Hope you enjoy it.

John Truman, a bright, introverted, college student belongs to the New Dawn...he just doesn't know it yet. The 300-year-old, Oxford-based, secret society designed him and built their organization to interface with him. They cannot survive without him; he cannot survive without them. All he wants is to get through today; all they want...is to rule the world.

I thought it was about time I did a contest. I haven't done one for ages and so what a better way to start a new year?

So, to win a ebook pdf copy of my modern romance, Hooked on You, all you have to do is leave a comment on my blog - and your name will be put into a hat. I'll ask a member of my family to pull out a winner's name on February 1st.

I'm also giving away a second prize, a ebook pdf copy of my short story, Avenue of Dreams to the second name picked, as a consolation prize.

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 145 comments Not sure this is the right place, but seeing as we are into 'give aways' I have donated a copy of my 'grow your own' book to an on line gardening site called 'real gardeners', It is world wide and I'll be paying the postage, first class, to ANYWHERE for who ever bids the most for a signed, dedicated copy. They have a monthly auction to fund the site.
So if you are into 'grow your own' and want a signed copy of 'Beyond the Potting Shed' written by little old me, pop over to 'real gardeners'.

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 145 comments Hi Dan,
You'll have to let me know if you get a signing down in my neck of the woods [norfolk] so I can come along and heckle!!
Seriously though, I wish you all the best with 'Dry Season', you beat me 'The Day the Ravens Died' fair and square at the Brit writers, not by much!! Let's see if I can turn the tables with 'The Unguarded Land' next time around, It's getting close!
And I'll add to Rick's good wishes, I genuinely hope you have a million seller on your hands, 'Dry Season' is streets ahead of a lot of the over hyped, so called, 'block busters out there at the moment.
Good luck.
All the best Paul rix [oldgeezer]

message 334: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 145 comments Hi Liza,
You were asking about 'professional reviews'' call me an old cynic, and you would be right. Such reviews are written by people who do nothing else, they are usually paid by the publisher.
Personally as an author I wouldn't take a bit of notice of them. A review by a reader who went out and bought the book in question is a great deal more valuable.
All the best Paul Rix [oldgeezer]

Ottilie (ottilie_weber) Those are actually the ones I look at before I buy a book. Money is tight right now so if I look at a couple of books and I only have money for one of them on Amazon I'll compare to see which has the better reader reviews

Leslie Shimotakahara (lshimo) My short story, "A Japanese Custom," was recently published in the online journal MTLS. You can read it through my blog, It's based on memories of my grandmother, who was such an eccentric, outspoken woman - the complete opposite of the stereotype of a delicate Japanese lady. I want to write more about her.... maybe after I finish my memoir.

Mark Johansen | 11 comments All right, I'm actually INVITED to plug my books.

I've written two:

A technical book about building computer databases.

A collection of claims of errors and contradictions in the Bible, with my rebuttals to each. Ranges from "Where did Cain get his wife?" to "How could all the millions of species of animals have fit on the Ark?" to "Were the 'Books of Moses' really written by Moses?", and about 90 more.

Both are available from Amazon, BarnesAndNoble.com, and various other places.
